National Meat Week

Meat lovers rejoice! It’s the one week of the year that is all about your favorite savory, smoky, meaty meals. To celebrate National Meat Week, let’s take a look at some of Crawford County’s best places to get a hearty slab of meat. In addition, we will be featuring one location each day this week. Feel free to add your favorites in the comments below.

Schenker Family Farms

Located near McCune, Schenker Family Farms is a multi-generation farm that offers farm raised beef, lamb, pork, and poultry. All animals graze freely on the farm’s several hundred acres. Their products range from beef snacks to brisket, and lamb chops to chicken breasts. See their website for pricing, online ordering, and retail locations.

Beck and Hill Meat Market

Beck and Hill is one of the most popular butchers in Pittsburg. Located at 303 N Broadway, the market attracts local customers with their fresh, locally raised meat and reasonable prices. Their beef products are especially favored by customers, including their ground beef, roast, and steaks.

Schroeder’s Custom Butchering

Schroeder’s is a locally owned butcher located at 418 E Washington in Arma. The butcher specializes in custom cuts of meat from your farm-raised animals. For pricing and turnaround of your specific order, stop by their store or call 620-347-8521.

Gusanos Pizza

Chicago-style deep-dish pizza right here in Pittsburg. Of interest to meat lovers is their Carnivore Craze specialty pizza, which throws in pepperoni, italian sausage, canadian bacon, and hamburger. No veggies on this one (unless, of course, you ask for them). Gusano’s Pittsburg location is at 200 W Centennial by the Meadowbrook Mall.

Smokey Racks

Smokey Racks is smoked BBQ done right! Now at 1102 S Broadway in Pittsburg, the new location (since 2015) is easy to find on the main strip of Broadway. Their brisket and ribs always garner rave reviews, same with the loaded spud. A customer favorite is to combine the two: a brisket or pork loaded spud is large enough to satisfy even the biggest appetite.

Jim’s Steakhouse

Jim’s Steakhouse is a classic Pittsburg establishment. Their familiar location at 1912 N Broadway serves fantastic steak with great service at a reasonable price. The sirloin tips are one of the most talked about entrees, and pair great with a baked potato.

5th Street Bar & Grill

Pittsburg’s 5th Street Bar and Grill has a variety of weekly specials to take advantage of. Taco Tuesday is always a hit, but the steak tips special on Fridays is one of our favorites. Their tips come from Beck and Hill Meat Market. Keep up with their specials pricing on their Facebook page.
